Well, this is a new and disturbing take on “man bites dog.” According to NBCConneticut:
A 22-year-old Branford man has been arrested, accused of killing his dog after it urinated on his leg and bit him.
There are so many things about this story that are not only disturbing, but weird. For instance, this man allegedly strangled the dog to death. STRANGLED IT! How does one even wrap their hands around a dog’s neck to do that? This makes me think the dog was actually just a pup.
Then he puts it in a bag and leaves it by the lake…with a microchip in its neck? I mean, way to cover your tracks, genius. I also wonder where he got the dog in the first place? He doesn’t seem smart enough/dumb enough to get it microchipped himself so what are the chances it came from a rescue? And if it did, I wonder how many people they turned down because they didn’t have a fenced in yard, only to give it to a dog strangler.
Also, I find it interesting that when a man kills a dog, it’s all of a sudden a “pit bull-boxer.” Had that same dog grown up and mauled someone, [...]

I once asked the Gay Guru if he ever wondered where Dateline and 48 Hours Mystery get their tales of marriages gone awry. Well, I think I found one thanks to the Newtown Bee. There are so many things about this story that are perfect for a tawdry television news magazine.
Let us first start with the name of road where the crime took place: Poverty Hollow Road. It evokes something out of Winter’s Bone, where backwoods, Appalachian types are scratching out a hard fought existence. Can’t you just hear the voice over now? “Murder in Poverty Hollow…”
(BTW, why does Newtown even have a Poverty Hollow Road? Shouldn’t it be, Lower Middle Class Road?)
And then… there’s the mug shot:

It would appear that Jerry Garcia faked his own death and has been living in Newtown, CT. What is it that Mr. Garcia (aka John Heath) is accused of? Well, killing his wife of course. Here’s what the Bee has to say about that:
Twenty-eight years and one month to the day John Heath told Newtown police he discovered his wife Elizabeth had left their Poverty Hollow Road home and declared her a missing person, he was being arraigned on first degree murder charges [...]

There are any number of reasons why I won’t go to Yankee Stadium, not the least of which is this video in which a chubby Red Sox fan who is obviously looking for a fight gets her ass handed to her by a classy gentleman of the Yankee-fan persuasion who dumps a beer on the “lady’s” head and his even classier “lady”-friend who kicks the Sox fan in the face.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXiQd_Jhubg
Now let’s be clear, I dislike Yankees fans of all stripes — especially these kind — but when you wear a Red Sox hat to Yankee Stadium (especially on a day when the Sox aren’t even playing) you kind of get what’s coming to you. And the same goes when you dare to wear a Yankees hat into Fenway…ever…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nN8NE4TohZ0
And frankly, if you’re going to start a fight under these circumstances, please don’t embarrass Boston by being a complete puss and letting a bunch of she-beasts in Yankees attire mop up the floor with you. In other words, unless you’re from Southie or Dorchester (and not the gentrified version) please keep your hands to yourself and your ass off of YouTube.

Usually when my grandmother tells me the world is going to Hell in a hand basket, I dismiss her. “It’s just the media,” I say. But I haven’t been able to sleep since some senseless alpaca murders last December. Now I can rest a little easier, though, because the alpaca murderers are behind bars.
According to NBCConnecticut:
State police have arrested two Westbrook men accused of killing of several alpacas on a farm in Essex and said more arrests are possible.
Troopers were called to the Applesauce Acres alpaca farm at 99 Bushy Hill Road in the Ivoryton section of Essex around 8 a.m. on Friday Dec. 23, 2011 after four alpacas were found dead.
The animals were “violently killed” and suffered multiple stab wounds, state police said.
Blood covered the ground inside the pen where the animals were held and state police said the animals were definitely killed by a human and were not victims of an animal attack.
Several other alpacas were in the pen, but unharmed, police said.
Not only have my sleep patterns been interrupted but I can barely go get hammered at the Griswold Inn without envisioning grisly alpaca slayings and that makes for a bad night. So, I think the cops should [...]

You’ve got to hand it to this guy for pure genius. I mean, all he did was take the basic economic principle of supple and demand to the next level. There was a clear demand for crack in a house full of addicts, and so he supplied the goods. Here’s The Man’s take on things:
Norwich police have arrested a man accused of running a crack cocaine operation out of a sober house.
Police said they received several tips that Khalil Hipps, 31, of Norwich, was running a drug operation out of the Liberty House, a transitional sober house on Washington Street, and selling drugs on the street.
I will say this wasn’t the greatest of choice for covers. I mean, no one can spot a drug dealer faster than an addict… and if they’re serious about their recovery, the first thing to do is turn them in.

I don’t know when the last time a government body was able to get so much done…
As if repealing the death penalty wasn’t a big enough accomplishment, a special committee has now approved two of the most annoying topics to come up year after year in our lovely state. Sales of alcohol on Sunday and tolls on Rte 11 still require full approval by the House and the Senate…so maybe my excitement is premature but after years of watching our wheels of government grind to a halt on just about every possible subject, I am trying to be optimistic.
I know my parents’ neighbors will be happy to know that instead their garage stockpile of beer will no longer be raided every Sunday by certain people who can’t remember to get their booze on Saturday… ahem, I’m looking at you Mom.

One recent Saturday night, The Pilot, our friend, Doctor, and I decided to head to Hanafin’s Public House in Glastonbury for dinner. The Pilot and I had been there once before and it had been decent, although he noted the beers were fairly pricey. It hadn’t been crowded and the service was average. Nothing to write home about, but worth hitting up again.
This second visit was a horse of a different color. The place was packed which seemed like a positive sign. However, their seating process was a disaster. We were told it’d be a lengthy wait, so we grabbed some drinks and settled in for the wait. There were plenty of empty tables, and I slowly realized that people were just taking them and getting waited on. When I asked, the clueless guy at the door said he’d check with the hostess, who disappeared for long periods of time. He came back finally and I was told that they were “just drinking” and that we couldn’t get seated because we wanted food and there was a back up in the kitchen. This irked me as I’d have been happy to just sit at a table and drink for a [...]

According to The Republican-American of Waterbury a State Trooper and some dude reported seeing a large object falling out of the sky in the Litchfield area on Tuesday night. But the cover-up has already started, as local officials told the paper they found no evidence of the “green, glowing object” which was reportedly headed for Bantam Lake. Yes, Connecticut has its very own UFO (Unidentified Falling Object).
Apparently, according to the well-researched, three sentence article it was “the size of a whale.” No word on whether that was a Beluga or a Humpback, but either way… it’s pretty big. Maybe it was an intergalactic Narwhal and it’s now making itself home in Bantam Lake and that’s why no one found anything suspicious. (Bantam Lake is home to many Narwhals.)

I can’t really tell if this picture is of the Intergalactic Narwhal but it was on NBCConnecticut’s story about the space debris without a caption, so I’m just going to assume it is. I invite all our nerds to go all Ancient Aliens on it, and figure out what exactly is going on here. If it’s just frozen hunks of space garbage, I’m not sure I want to know.

As you probably already know — if you’re even mildly tuned into the news — the state Senate voted to repeal the Death Penalty in Connecticut. I am very happy about this.
Please read on before you start calling me a bleeding heart.
The truth is I don’t believe in the death penalty but not because I believe in the sanctity of human life. No, I spend most days thinking that the earth would be a whole lot better off if we got a good global plague. There’s too many people, and too many of those people amount to giant drains on global resources without really giving anything back.
No, I object to the death penalty for far more practical reasons. To start, I can’t imagine why these anti-government, conservative wing-nuts thinks it’s OK for the government to dish out death, but not healthcare. Apparently you can trust the government to decide who should die, but not to run a glorified insurance agency. WTF?
You may have guessed by now that I don’t have faith in our government — or juries made up of the people who could use a good plague — to decide who is guilty. You don’t have to look very [...]
